Kolokitha beach is an island full of seaguls, which is opposite to Peninsula of Spinalonga, 12km north of Agios Nikolaos, very close to Elounda.

Between these two shores, a protected leeward gulf that seems like a blue-green natural pool is created, the beautiful beach of Kolokitha. This beach with the bright blue waters is right under the modern church of Saint Luke, from where a short path to the beach begins. Standing on the beach, you can also easily see the byzantine church of Saint Phocas at the north, which was built in the honor of Byzantine emperor Nikiforos Phocas for the liberation of Crete in 961 AD from the Arabs. It’s truly worth visiting this church, while walking its onshore path.
